The clients required a garden that complemented their beautiful Victorian villa. They also wanted to make maintenance more manageable.
The rainwater run off from the back yard was a problem, frequently flowing across the yard and straight onto the road. The solution was a rain garden. This is designed to contain the surface water drainage falling onto the site for as long as possible.
Inspiration for this garden came from the clients’ admiration of Jardin Majorelle in Marrakesh. We commissioned Rain garden planters in galvanised steel from Harrod Horticultural. They were coloured ‘Majorelle Blue’ and matching raised planters were all given the same blue paint treatment. In addition a small green roof over the bin store delayed the rainfall and flow from the outhouse roof.
The existing York stone pavers were re-laid along with some new complementary sandstone setts in a diagonal pattern. This made the space look much larger.
Construction was by David Massey Garden Landscaping. Essence Garden Design produced the planting plan and the planting was completed by the customer.
